Want to learn what to do to help animals in our city? You've come to the right place. Actions we take to help make our streets more hospitable to animals help people too! Here's some things you can do to get started

1) Plant Trees

Trees keep our streets cool, and provide habitat for birds, possums, raccoons, squirrels and more! They help feed lots of animals too like rainbow colored moths and bumblebees. Tree Philly can help you get a tree for free in the city!

If you have a back yard, plant something in the dirt, and if not, no sweat! Add some pots in plants to your sidewalk. Every little bit helps, especially for small creatures like insects that desperately need our help. I wrote a whole overview on planting native plants if you want to pursue this action. Get all the details here.

(P.S. I'm selling native plants over at 2433 E Norris St right now, they're outside, go get one. Help a bug out.)

3) Stop using pesticides

Insects are the base of the food chain on land (right above plants). Whoever your favorite city critter is, they rely on bugs, either directly, or for help creating the food they eat. If you're worried about mosquitoes, you can use a targeted mosquito killer like Mosquito bits! They kill mosquitoes while keeping the other insects safe.

There's a lot more we can do, including slowing climate change, keeping our rivers clean, and so much more. But we'll leave it here for today.
